Allan Scott – Don’t Look Now

look 1 Small 300x214 Allan Scott Dont Look NowWhen producer Peter Katz asked screenwriters ALLAN SCOTT and Chris Bryant to adapt a short story by Daphne du Maurier for the big screen, they had no idea that nearly 40 years later the resulting film, DON’T LOOK NOW, would still be considered one of the best British features of all time.

Starring Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie, and directed by Nicolas Roeg, the film follows John and Laura Baxter as they travel to Venice after the death of their young daughter. There they meet two elderly sisters who claim they’ve been in psychic communication with the couple’s dead child; news which provokes wildly different reactions from John and Laura.

Click on the audio file below to hear Scott talk to film journalist Jan Gilbert about how stand-up comedy led to his screenwriting career, the inspirations behind his changes to du Maurier’s story, and why he enjoys working with director Nic Roeg.
